The
First Lady of the US, Michelle Obama (FLOTUS) has joined campaign
calling for the return of over 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria kidnapped by
the Islamist group, Boko Haram. A
total of 276 students were kidnapped in Nigeria’s Borno state about
three weeks ago when the Islamist group stormed their school, loaded
them onto trucks but some of the girls managed to escape. The
US First Lady on May 8, 2014 joined the protest campaign by posting a
photo of herself holding up a small placard with the trending hashtag
"#BringBackOurGirls" on photo sharing site, Instagram. She posted that: "Our prayers are with the missing Nigerian girls and their families. It’s time to #BringBackOurGirls." Several
other renowned personalities, including Drake, Forest Withaker, Justin
Timberlake, Angelina Jolie, Sean Penn, Aston Kutcher, CNN’s Aisha Sesay,
have also joined in the campaign.
